Listen to Feishu Docs — The Remote Team's Missing Feature
Our team runs fully remote on Feishu. Weekly reports, project proposals, technical RFCs, meeting notes — everything lives in Feishu Docs.
The documents keep getting longer. A project proposal runs fifteen pages. A technical RFC hits twenty. Before a meeting you need to review three or four of these.
Reading all of that on a screen? Your eyes give up halfway through.
I started using CastReader to listen to Feishu documents instead. It changed my workflow.
The problem with Feishu and TTS
Feishu has no read-aloud button. Google Docs has accessibility extensions. Notion has third-party integrations. Feishu has nothing.
There's a technical reason for this. Feishu uses virtual rendering — only the blocks near your viewport contain actual text. Scroll away, and those blocks become empty placeholders. A naive text extractor would grab whatever's visible and miss the rest of the document.
CastReader has a dedicated Feishu extractor that handles this. It scrolls through the document internally, waits for each section to render, and collects the complete text. You don't see any of this — you just click and listen.
How I actually use it
Pre-meeting doc review
Fifteen minutes before a meeting, I open the agenda doc in Feishu, click CastReader, set it to 1.3x speed. I listen while scanning the charts and tables visually. Faster than reading word-by-word, and my eyes can focus on the data that matters.
Commute knowledge base catchup
Our Feishu knowledge base has hundreds of pages. New hires are supposed to read through onboarding docs, team processes, architectural decisions. Open the links on your phone browser, let CastReader read them during your commute.
Friday weekly report writing
Friday afternoon, weekly report time. Open this week's project docs and meeting notes, let CastReader read through them while I type up the summary. Much faster than switching between tabs.
Setup
- Install CastReader
- Open a Feishu document in your browser
- Click the CastReader icon — or use the inline "Listen" button that appears next to the document title
- Start listening
CastReader skips navigation bars, sidebar catalogs, comment bubbles, and embedded sheets. Only the document body gets read.
Works with the whole Lark ecosystem
CastReader supports all three Feishu/Lark domains: feishu.cn, larksuite.com, and larkoffice.com. Whether your team uses the Chinese or international version, it works the same way.
Not just Feishu
The same approach works on Yuque, Notion, Google Docs, and Confluence. If your team uses any of these collaboration platforms, CastReader has a dedicated extractor for each.
