Skips Affiliation and Metrics Chrome

Wiley article pages nest author affiliations, ORCID links, Altmetric widgets, and 'Download PDF' sidebars around the paper. CastReader reads the title, abstract, and body in order — no ORCID URLs, no affiliation dumps before the science.

Clean reading

Paywall Honest

Reads What Your Institution Loaded

CastReader reads whatever text your browser rendered. If your library subscribes to the journal, full text is in the DOM and we read it. If you only see the abstract, we only read the abstract. We don't bypass paywalls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about listening to Wiley Online Library with CastReader

How do I listen to a Wiley paper?

Open the article on onlinelibrary.wiley.com in Chrome (the URL looks like /doi/10.1002/anie.202012345 or /doi/full/10.1002/adma.202301234). Click the CastReader icon. It reads title → abstract → main text in order.

Which Wiley journals are supported?

All of them. The Wiley Online Library uses a shared Atypon rendering across Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials, JCO, Hepatology, Cochrane reviews, Allergy, The FASEB Journal, and 1,600+ others. One extractor covers the whole site.

What about paywalled articles?

CastReader reads whatever your browser rendered. For open-access Wiley articles (Advanced Science, iScience siblings, gold OA papers) everything reads end-to-end. For subscription articles your institution doesn't have, only the abstract is in the DOM and that's all we read.

What about references and citations?

Inline citation markers (brackets, superscripts) and the References section are skipped so the audio flows as prose. Figure and table captions are read because they're prose; the figure images and raw tabular data are skipped.

Does it handle Cochrane reviews?

Yes. Cochrane Library reviews (cochranelibrary.com) use the same Wiley template. Abstract, Plain Language Summary, and the Main Results sections all read cleanly.

Can I adjust reading speed?

Yes. 0.5x through 3x supported. Many researchers run 1.5x for Introduction and Discussion, 1.2x for Methods. The floating player keeps playing across tab switches.

Is it free? Any limits?

Completely free with no page or character limits. No account needed. CastReader is a free browser extension for Chrome and Edge.

Does it work on the mobile Wiley site?

CastReader is a desktop Chrome/Edge extension. Browser extensions aren't available on mobile Safari or Chrome Mobile. Open Wiley articles on your computer for listening.
