Why Listen to Quran.com with CastReader?

Quran.com has Arabic recitation built in. What it doesn't have audio for: the English translation, the tafsir, the academic translations. CastReader fills that gap.

Translation Audio

English / Urdu / Indonesian / 30+ Translations

Quran.com hosts dozens of translations and the Arabic Mushaf is recited by professional qurra. But the translations themselves are silent text. CastReader reads whichever translation you have selected — Sahih International, Pickthall, Yusuf Ali, Saheeh, Asad, Hilali-Khan, the Indonesian and Urdu translations — in natural TTS.

Tafsir

Reads Tafsir Commentary Aloud

Quran.com displays tafsir from Ibn Kathir, Maarif-ul-Quran, Tazkirul Quran, Tafsir al-Jalalayn, and others. These are scholarly commentaries — sometimes long, often dense. CastReader reads the tafsir text aloud so you can listen to commentary while keeping the verse on screen.

Verse Sync

Verse-by-Verse Highlighting

Quran.com tags every ayah as its own block. CastReader highlights the verse currently being read, in sync with the audio. Read the Arabic on screen with one ear, listen to translation in the other — or just follow the translation text visually with audio reinforcing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about listening to Quran.com with CastReader

How do I listen to a surah on Quran.com?

Open the surah on quran.com in Chrome (e.g., Surah Al-Baqarah). Click the CastReader icon. Audio plays the translation you have selected, verse by verse, through to the end of the surah.

Does it read the Arabic?

CastReader uses TTS, which is best suited for the translation text. The Arabic recitation built into Quran.com (by qurra like Mishary Rashid Alafasy, Abdul Basit, etc.) is the right tool for the Arabic. CastReader is for the translation and tafsir.

Which translations work?

All of them — whichever translation Quran.com is rendering as text. Switch translations on the site and the next play reads the new one.

Can it read tafsir?

Yes. Open the tafsir view (Ibn Kathir, Maarif-ul-Quran, Tazkirul Quran, etc.). CastReader reads the commentary text. Long tafsir entries — like Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255 (Ayat al-Kursi) — read end to end.

Does it work for Indonesian / Urdu / Turkish translations?

Yes — CastReader supports many languages. Pick the language voice in CastReader settings to match your translation language.

What about footnote numbers in translations?

Stripped from audio. Translation footnote markers (¹ ² ³) aren't read.

Can I adjust reading speed?

Yes. 0.5x through 3x. For tafsir study, 1.0x–1.2x. For full-surah review, 1.5x.

Is it free?

Completely free. No account, no surah limit. CastReader is a free browser extension for Chrome and Edge.
